No More Maybe, We're Having a Baby!
I have to admit that since our first positive pregnancy test on March 5th, I've been anxiously awaiting this day. Today was our first prenatal appointment. We weren't sure what to expect but everything went smoothly. We received all kinds of information to help us prepare for the baby, so we will have lots of reading to do between now and our next appointment!
Today, Dr. Jardine told us that we are 7 weeks pregnant! Our little "player to be named" (as Jimmy says) is due November 2, 2010. We would be thrilled with a boy or girl, but I hope that our first is a boy. I would love to watch Jimmy pitch to our little one holding one of those red plastic bats that we all loved so much as children! Although, it would also be very entertaining to watch him play dress-up and have tea parties with a little girl!
Jimmy seems to think that we will have a boy thanks to what he refers to as the balloon test. After we told my parents that we were pregnant, they came to our apartment one day while we were out. They left a beautiful, colorful bouquet of flowers with a card and 4 balloons, 2 blue and 2 pink. Why 2 of each? Twins run in Jimmy's family so my parents wanted to make sure they considered that option! When we woke up the next morning, all but one balloon was laying on the ground ... one blue balloon was still standing. Jimmy was happy to see blue but I was happy to see only one balloon!
Annie, one of our dachshunds, took an interest in the balloons. I found her tangled in ribbons one morning. She took a particular liking to the weight that the balloons were tied to. She shook and tossed it about, trying to chew the ribbons from it. We had to laugh because she seemed to be saying no to baby. She and Gracie Lou demand attention and I'm not sure what they will do once the baby arrives. They are good girls, so I'm sure they will be fine!
Our next appointment will be April 15th and we will be able to hear our baby's heartbeat that day! I can't even imagine what that moment will be like. In the meantime, we will be working on posting pictures of our infamous balloon test, jealous puppies and my belly!
